Church
Kerala is the craddle of christianity in India. Angamaly has a prominent position among the christian denomination. After the historical event of Coonan cruz in 1653 at mattanchery, the church was divided. During that time syrian christians who got more Sabore Afroth Church at akaparambu. At this time the syrian believers of manjapra who went to akaparambu for their spiritual needs.
For the purpose of the facility to the participation of worship and spiritual growth, some forefathers who decided to form another new churh from Angamaly-Akaparambu churhc. As a result we received the property from Nedumthallil arackaparambil Mr. Itty Thomman Varkey in 1872 from the taluk of Alangode in Travencore. Then there was a steady growth in the construction of the church. On 15th February 1873, H G Joseph Mar Dionysius Pulikottil laid the foundation stone for this church building to be made of stone and clay. The church was consecrated and named after St. George The first among in the martyrs and first holy eucharist was offered in the church by his grace. The following Rev.Fr Ittyachan and Rev Dn. Paulose where conclebrated in this holy euharist.
Thus the church was erected in AD 1873 as result of the ardent prayers and hard work of the forefathers who belonged to “more Shabore Afroth Chruch, Akapparambu and St. Mary’s Church, Angamaly”. Now a days the church is known as “Puthenpally”. It is famous pilgrimage center in manjapra in the name Geevarghese Sahada.
The madbaha of the church is dedicated to St .George, the partorn and the two other madbahas are dedicated to St. Mary (the mother of god) and St. thomas (the apostle of india). This church is belonged to the diocese of angamaly of the malankara jacobite syrian church, under the patriarchate of Holy Apostolic – See of Antioc and All the east. We have always be filial to the patriarchs, catholicos and bishops appointed by His Holiness . Priests are appointed by the bishops as vicars from time to time.
